How to get clay in Disney Dreamlight Valley, best place to find and farm clay

Where to find and how to forage this versatile material.

You need to get clay in Disney Dreamlight Valley in order to craft certain items and materials, and to complete quests.

It's one of the more annoying resources to farm in Disney Dreamlight Valley, so to help with your crafting and quest needs (we're looking at you Minnie), we've detailed exactly how to get clay, and the best places to farm and find clay in the valley.

For more help, we've got pages on recipes, critters, redemption codes, and a list of current and future characters, including how to get Stitch.

How to get clay in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To find clay in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you need to unlock either the Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, or the Forgotten Lands, then dig with your shovel while in one of them. You need to unlock the Sunlit Plateau in order to get to the Forgotten Lands to unlock it as well.

The cheapest point of entry to clay is the Glade of Trust at 5,000 Dreamlight, so we recommend unlocking it first.

We found that you're more likely to get clay while it's raining, or by digging near water sources like rivers and ponds. That said, if you need a large amount of clay, you'll probably find that you need to dig almost everywhere in a Biome anyway.

You can get clay from the Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, and the Forgotten Lands.

Additionally, when you progress through Scar's 'Nature and Nurture' quest to unlock him, then complete his 'Breaking Bones' quest, you can craft the Lion's Claw Shovel Head. This allows you to break the bones in the Sunlit Plateau valley, which drop clay.

Unfortunately, these bones in the Sunlit Plateau don't respawn, making them a limited source. This might change in future updates, but for now, you can get roughly 150 clay from breaking all the bones in the Sunlit Plateau as a one time deal.

Hit these bone piles in the Sunlit Plateau with your upgraded shovel to get clay.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's holiday update is here! We've got pages on how to get Stitch, a walkthrough for Stitch's quest, festive fish, redemption codes, the Toy Story Realm, how to catch Kingfish, and an updated future and current character list, and recipe list including how to make boba tea, fruitcake, yule log, and a gingerbread house. For more help, check out how to upgrade your house, Remy's recipe book locations, a 'With Great Power' and Nature and Nurture walkthoughs - including how to get rich soil, clay, seaweed, and how to make extra fizzy root beer.

Best place to find and farm clay in Disney Dreamlight Valley

As mentioned above, you're more likely to get clay from the Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, and the Forgotten Lands when it's raining. As there's no way to control the weather, the next best method to farming clay is to dig near water sources like rivers and ponds with a Level 10 digging companion 'hanging out' with you.

There's a chance to get more clay while you're digging anytime you're hanging out with a character assigned the digging bonus, but this chance is increased if they're at Level 10. Assigning more villagers the digging bonus can increase the bonus clay you get from hanging out even further.

Completing a character's quests, hanging out with them, and giving them normal and favourite gifts will increase their friendship, which eventually levels them up.

We got 34 clay after digging holes in the Glade of Trust for around five minutes.

A handy tip when farming clay is to cover up holes by going into the furniture placement menu, then placing a large item, like a bed, over any of the holes you need covered up. This will automatically cover the holes without the need to waste time and use your shovel to do so.

Just remember to actually place the furniture item , or the holes won't be automatically covered. Pick up the item from the same menu and place it again and again to speed up the hole covering process.

You have to actually place an item of furniture to cover up digging holes.

Farming clay can be very annoying, especially since certain characters (Minnie why do you hate us?) require so much of it to complete their quests. As long as you hang out with a character with the digging bonus, start your farming route by a water source, and try to get clay while it's raining, then you'll have a far easier time finding clay than you usually would.
